Endpoint Software Inventory & Usage
The Endpoint Software Inventory & Usage view tracks software discovered across your endpoints by the RMM connector — actual install records, no estimates. Every install is classified by how recently it was used, turning raw discovery data into a clear picture of what is active, what is idle, and what can be reclaimed. Open it from the Endpoint Software tab on Usage Analytics.
View Toggles
Two toggles above the KPI tiles control what the view shows — they filter the display, not the stored data.
- Hide system / drivers — Hides
.NETruntimes, redistributables, OS patches, vendor utility apps, and hardware drivers - Hide Microsoft — Hides Microsoft-published titles, so the view reports on the rest of the estate
Note: These toggles sit on top of the ingest settings. The
Ingest system appsandIngest device driverstoggles in General Settings decide what is stored; these decide what is shown.
KPI Tiles
- Total Installs — Imported software records
- Applications — Distinct software titles
- Devices — Distinct endpoints
- Unique Users — Distinct users, with active seats counted across multiple devices
Usage Classification
Every install is placed in one bucket based on its last-used date. Click a card to open the matching installs.
| Bucket | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Active | Used very recently — in regular use |
| Within 30 Days | Last used in the past 30 days |
| Within 60 Days | Last used in the past 60 days |
| Within 90 Days | Last used in the past 90 days |
| Stale (>90d) | No recorded use in over 90 days — a prime reclaim candidate |
| No Usage Data | Discovered, but no usage telemetry is available yet |
Installs in the Stale (>90d) bucket are the highest-value reclaim targets — software that is provisioned and paid for but no longer in use. System components (.NET runtimes, drivers, OS patches) are filtered out during ingest by default — see the Endpoint Inventory toggles in General Settings.
Insights
Three charts summarize the bucketed installs at a glance:
- Install Distribution — Installs grouped by usage bucket
- Top 10 Applications by Usage — Most-deployed titles with their usage split
- Publishers by Usage — Install counts rolled up by publisher
Details
Four drill-down tabs list the inventory from different angles — Applications, Users, Devices, and All Installs. The Applications tab is the richest cut: one row per title with installs, devices, unique users, owners, active seats, the per-bucket usage distribution (Active, 30d, 60d, 90d, Stale, No Data), utilization %, and seat-adoption %. Every tab is sortable and searchable.
Import RMM Export
When endpoint discovery is not wired into a connector, inventory can be loaded directly. The Import RMM Export action accepts an exported inventory file of discovered installs and merges it into the inventory. Re-importing refreshes existing records rather than duplicating them.
Best Practices
- Review the
Stale (>90d)andWithin 90 Daysbuckets each renewal cycle — these are the installs most likely to be reclaimable before a true-up. - Treat
No Usage Dataas a discovery gap, not as idle software — prioritise getting usage telemetry for those installs before making reclaim decisions. - Keep the
Ingest system appsandIngest device driverstoggles off in General Settings unless you specifically need them — system components inflate install counts without adding reclaim value. - Keep endpoint software names aligned with the Software Catalog so installs roll up to the right product.
