Product Launch Behavior

After signing in, users land on the product selection screen — the grid of Beak products, with the ones the user's roles grant shown as available (see Product Access on the Selection Screen). Choosing whether clicking an available product opens it in a new browser tab or replaces the selection screen in the current tab is a per-tenant setting.

By default, products open in a new tab.

How it works

The setting applies to the whole tenant: every product tile, for every user in that tenant. It is not per product and not per user.

It takes effect the next time a user loads the product selection screen — there is nothing to redeploy, and users already signed in do not have to sign in again.

Change the setting

  1. Sign in to the admin console and open Tenants.
  2. Open the tenant you want to change.
  3. Find the Product Launch Behavior card.
  4. Toggle Open products in a new browser tab.

The change saves as soon as you toggle it; there is no separate Save step.

Neither mode is more secure than the other, and neither changes what a user can access — that is decided by the tenant's product set and then by their roles.

Notes

  • Sign-in is unaffected. The session is shared across products either way, so a product opened in either mode picks up the existing sign-in without prompting again.
  • A user with only one product always opens in the current tab. When a user's roles leave exactly one product available, Beak opens it for them at sign-in instead of showing the selection screen, and always in the current tab — a browser blocks a new tab the user did not open by clicking. This setting still governs every product the user opens by clicking a tile. See Product Access on the Selection Screen.
  • Both modes work on custom domains. If the tenant serves the login page or individual products on its own hostnames, the setting behaves the same.
  • No-access redirects still work. If a user opens a product their roles do not grant, the product returns them to the product selection screen with an explanatory message, in either mode.
  • Opening a product after signing out returns the user to the login page. The selection screen can outlive the session behind it — left open in another tab, or reached with the Back button after signing out. Clicking a tile then takes the user to their login page (their company's or tenant's, per Login Branding & Custom Domains) rather than to an error, and once they sign in they land on the product they clicked rather than back on the selection screen.
  • Products unavailable in the current environment stay hidden. The setting only controls how a visible product opens; it never reveals a product that is not configured.
